SKETCH
Tama were commissioned in 2020 to design a new house on the footprint of a dilapidated steel shed on the outskirts of a rural Oxfordshire village. The brief was to create a building that felt like it belonged to the site and locality, would be sheltered from noise of the nearby road to the north and maximise the views looking south towards the Uffington White Horse.
The main dwelling is broken down into three areas corresponding to the three primary structures. The west building leads of the entrance courtyard and houses the utility rooms. The entrance hall leads you through this towards the main central kitchen and living space which has a wide southerly aspect to the south courtyard and beyond to the hills. The bedrooms and sitting room are located in the easterly building. The living room is sunken into the landscape resulting in a quieter space, the simple change of level delineates this space from the bedrooms.
